Shefali Jariwala, Known for 'Kaanta Laga' and Bigg Boss, Passes Away at 42

Shefali Jariwala, the actress who rose to fame with the iconic song "Kaanta Laga," tragically passed away in Mumbai late Friday. Her husband rushed her to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was 42 years old. The cause of death has not yet been shared by her family.
Her body was taken to Cooper Hospital for a postmortem examination, and the police are presently at her residence questioning household staff, including her cook and maid.
Shefali shot to stardom in 2002 with “Kaanta Laga,” a song that became a pop culture phenomenon. She later became a familiar face on television after her stint on **Bigg Boss 13**, where her confidence and candid style won over viewers.
In 2004, she appeared in the Bollywood film *Mujhse Shaadi Karogi*, starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Priyanka Chopra. She also participated in *Nach Baliye* Seasons 5 and 7 alongside her husband, Parag Tyagi, whom she married in 2015.
Her sudden demise has shocked the entertainment world and left her fans mourning.
Singer Mika Singh expressed his grief on social media: “I’m deeply shocked, saddened, and feeling a heavy heart… Our beloved star and my dearest friend Shefali Jariwala has left us. Still can’t believe it. You will always be remembered for your grace, smile, and spirit. Om Shanti.”
In another touching Instagram post, Mika reflected on their 25-year acquaintance. He recalled their collaboration in 2020: “Shefali called me and said, ‘Let's do a song.’ We finally made it happen — a beautiful video, filled with heart… I wish we had done more. Spent more time. Made more memories. Friends, life is short… Because sometimes, we don't get a second chance. Rest in peace, Shefali.”
Actress Kamya Punjabi shared her sorrow in an Instagram story: “I can’t get over this news...my heart is sinking. Shefali.”
Columnist Tehseen Poonawalla wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Absolutely stunned to hear my friend Shefali Jariwala is no more... Incredible how Siddharth Shukla and now she from my season are no more. Sending love and healing to her loved ones.”
Actor-model Paras Chhabra, who also appeared with her on *Bigg Boss 13*, posted a photo with Shefali on Instagram Stories, writing, “Kiski zindagi kitni likhi hai, koi nahi jaanta” (No one knows how long life is written for).
The entertainment industry has lost a vibrant spirit, and her sudden departure reminds us all of life’s fragility. Om Shanti.
