Shiladitya Bora Makes Odia Cinema Debut with Upcoming Film ‘Bindusagar’

Acclaimed filmmaker and producer Shiladitya Bora is all set to enter Odia cinema with his next project, Bindusagar, a family drama that promises to blend tradition with a global outlook.

The film stars popular Odia actors Prakruti Mishra and Dipanwit Dashmohapatra and is directed by Abhishek Swain, best known for his critically praised 2024 film Jajabara 2.0. Produced under Bora’s banner Platoon One Films, in collaboration with Vinay Reddy, Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee, and Nikhil Chaudhry (MDC Filmworks), Bindusagar is slated for a December release.

Speaking about his first venture into Odia cinema, Bora—who has previously produced Picasso and Yours Truly—said he’s passionate about bringing Odia stories to a global audience.

“Odisha has been producing remarkable content lately, but it remains underrepresented globally,” Bora said in a statement. “The Odia film industry is on the cusp of a breakthrough, and we want to be part of that journey. With Bindusagar, we aim to create something that resonates with both local and international audiences.”

Set against the backdrop of Odisha and London, Bindusagar is described as a poignant story of love, identity, and faith. The official synopsis reads: “When a young woman's quest to discover her roots intersects with a grieving father's journey to find faith, they discover redemption and purpose in the ancient city of Bhubaneswar.”

Director Abhishek Swain expressed optimism about the project’s impact on the regional film industry.

“Platoon One’s involvement could be a turning point for Odia cinema,” he said. “Their experience in crafting local stories for global audiences and their distribution reach could make Bindusagar the first truly global Odia film.”

Also featuring Robin Das and Satya Ranjan in key roles, Bindusagar is expected to release in theatres this December, with hopes high for its cultural and cinematic impact.
