Sitaare Zameen Par First Poster Out: Aamir Khan Looks Unimpressed Amid Kids, Film Set for June 20 Release

Aamir Khan has revealed the first poster of his much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna. This film serves as a spiritual sequel to Aamir’s 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par and is slated for a June 20 release after a couple of delays.

The poster features Aamir, looking less than pleased, surrounded by ten children. His elbow rests on a basketball, hinting that the sport will play a significant role in the movie, much like art did in the original film. Sitaare Zameen Par will not only feature Aamir in a key role but will also introduce 10 debutant actors—Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. Each of them is featured in the poster, highlighting their distinct personalities as they stand around Aamir’s character.

While Taare Zameen Par carried the iconic tagline “Every child is special,” Sitaare Zameen Par comes with a new one: “Sabka apna apna normal” (Normal is to each their own). Aamir recently shared insights about the film during a visit to China, explaining how the movie explores themes of love, friendship, and life, especially focusing on differently-abled individuals. “Taare Zameen Par made you cry, but this film will make you laugh. It’s a comedy, but the core theme remains the same,” Aamir said.

He also shared details about his character in the new film, which is quite different from his role in the first part. “In Taare Zameen Par, my character Nikumbh was very sensitive. In this film, I play Gulshan, who is the complete opposite—rude, politically incorrect, and often insulting to everyone. He’s a basketball coach with a lot of internal issues, fighting with his wife and mother, and even his senior coach,” Aamir revealed.

The film’s plot revolves around how Gulshan, through his interactions with the ten children—including those with Down syndrome, autism, and other different abilities—learns what it truly means to be a good human being. Aamir explained that Sitaare Zameen Par is the Indian adaptation of the 2018 Spanish sports comedy Campeones by Javier Fresser.

Directed by RS Prasanna, who is known for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), the film features a screenplay by Divy Nidhi Sharma and music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. It is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
