Smriti Irani responds to fan questioning if she’s taking a break from politics to act in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

Smriti Irani is making it clear that she has no plans to take a break from politics, even as she returns to television with the reboot of the popular show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The first look of the show was released recently, sparking nostalgia among fans.

In a recent exchange on her X (formerly Twitter) account, a fan wished her good luck for the show and hoped it would be just a brief pause from her political career. Smriti responded firmly, saying, “No sabbatical. I have worked in both media and politics for 25 years, with only a decade break due to my responsibilities as a Cabinet Minister. I have never compromised on my sangathan (organization) responsibilities, and I never will.”

Another fan expressed respect for her return to TV but hoped she would continue to stay active in politics, especially with upcoming elections in Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. Smriti replied warmly, “My Pranaam to your Ma … be assured of my active political contribution during the forthcoming elections as assigned by sangathan.”

A senior member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Smriti Irani has been a member of the Indian Parliament since 2011. She served in the Rajya Sabha representing Gujarat from 2011 to 2019 and then in the Lok Sabha from the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh from 2019 to 2024.

The beloved show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is finally making its much-anticipated comeback, with Smriti reprising her iconic role as Tulsi, and Amar Upadhyay returning as Mihir. The story centers around Tulsi, the ideal daughter-in-law and daughter of a pandit, who is married to Mihir, the grandson of business tycoon Govardhan Virani.

The new season will premiere on July 29 at 10:30 pm on Star Plus and JioHotstar.
