Soha Ali Khan Reflects on Saif and Amrita’s Divorce, Says It Was a Time of Transition for the Whole Family

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s divorce in 2004 ended more than just their 13-year-long marriage — it also impacted their extended families. In a recent podcast with Nayandeep Rakshit, Saif’s sister Soha Ali Khan opened up about how the separation affected her personally and emotionally, revealing a close bond she once shared with Amrita.

Soha reflected on the complexities that arise when a marriage ends, not just for the couple, but for the people around them as well. “It’s like when a marriage ends, the families also go through a period of change and adjustment. You may find your own independent equation after some time, but it’s complicated,” she shared.

She recalled fond memories of living with Amrita Singh, who had cared for her deeply during that time. “For me, Amrita was someone I lived with in her house. She looked after me, took me for photoshoots and did so much. We’ve played Scrabble together,” Soha said, highlighting the warmth of their past relationship.

Talking about the period following the divorce, she added, “When that relationship ends, of course, you go through a moment of processing and transition. You first allow them to find their equation, and then you have to find your own within that. I think that’s something we went through, and now, there’s a sense of settlement. The children are all grown up. You can be yourself in a way.”

Saif and Amrita met in the early 1990s and married quietly in 1991, despite a significant age difference — Amrita being 12 years older. At the time, Amrita was already a successful actress while Saif was just beginning his film career. The couple had two children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, who were nine and three respectively when their parents separated.

In 2012, Saif married actress Kareena Kapoor, with whom he now shares two sons, Taimur and Jehangir. While Amrita Singh keeps her distance from Saif’s current family life, Sara and Ibrahim are often seen participating in family events with their father.

Soha Ali Khan, meanwhile, was last seen in the horror film Chhorii 2 and is now focusing on her podcast, All About Her, where she interviews celebrities about their personal journeys and life experiences.
