“Squid Game” Star Anupam Tripathi Leads Korean Horror Anthology App The Horror, Set for 2026 Release

"Squid Game" sensation Anupam Tripathi fronts the upcoming Korean anthology feature "App The Horror", an ambitious genre experiment now deep in post-production and already commanding attention across global markets.
The film was recently introduced to international buyers at the American Film Market, where Hong Kong-based Autumn Sun unveiled sales for Asia and Russia, while Korea's Anthology21 is managing sales across the rest of the world.
The film unites eight rising Korean filmmakers under the aegis of producer Hyung Seul-woo, known for the 2023 drama " Someone You Loved." Backed by Anthology21, founded by industry veterans Jin Lee and Jennie Moon, the feature marks a new wave of contemporary Korean horror driven by younger creative voices, reports DEADLINE.
Each segment of the film is “linked by a mysterious app that turns digital fear into real-world horror”. The film is scheduled for a wide theatrical release in South Korea in February 2026. Also starring is Lim Ye-eun (You and Everything Else).
“It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a bold and original Asian omnibus horror,” said Elliot Tong, Head of Sales and Acquisitions for Autumn Sun, which presented early footage to Asian buyers at AFM.
Industry observers have praised the project as a rare and audacious return to the omnibus horror tradition in Asia, a subgenre long admired but infrequently attempted at this scale. Its thematic engagement with digital dependency and techno-paranoia is expected to resonate strongly with the MZ generation, for whom the boundaries between online and offline life remain ever more porous.
On the sales front at AFM, Autumn Sun concluded deals for Chinese animation Bear Kids to Super Hero for Russia/CIS (Kinologistica), Taiwan (Moviecloud), and Colombia (Trompetero Producciones / Dragon Fruit) for producer Beijing Dream Planting Film Company.
The same producer also brought the new sequel to their dinosaur animated feature, I Am T-Rex 2 to the China Film Pavilion at the market. The original film was acquired by Well Go USA for North America, and the sequel was also picked up by Well Go USA during Cannes this year.
Autumn Sun continued sales on Happy Little Submarine: Adventure Island, the 11th installment of the popular Chinese franchise, with recent sales to Turkey (Alfa Fortuna) and Russia/CIS (Kinologistica).
“China produces animated features across a wide range of budgets,” added Elliot Tong. “While groundbreaking top titles such as Nezha 2 continue to enjoy a global market, we’re encouraged to see that smaller-scale titles featuring non-culturally-specific characters are also finding strong opportunities outside Asia.”
