Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme: A Lifeline for Farmers Amid Natural Disasters

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, the Bihar government is running many welfare schemes for farmers, one of which is Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme. Under this scheme, the state government gives financial compensation to the farmers in case of damage or loss of crops. Due to natural disasters, farmers have to suffer losses many times. They have to face financial crisis due to which they are not able to do farming properly. With the aim of solving all these problems, the state government started Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme in the year 2018.

The objective of Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme is to provide financial assistance to farmers in case of damage to crops due to flood, drought and other natural disasters so that they can be encouraged to do farming in future. Along with this, the state government has started this scheme with the aim of making farmers self-reliant and empowered. The special thing is that now vegetable crops have also been included in the Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme along with other crops. Now the farmers of Bihar will not have to face financial problems in case of loss in vegetable crops. In the cabinet meeting held on July 25, 2023 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, it was decided that now the state government will also provide financial assistance to the farmers for vegetable crops under the Crop Assistance Scheme. Now the farmers of the state will be given financial assistance in case of loss of production in adverse vegetable weather.

This scheme was started to protect the crops of farmers farming in Bihar from natural disasters like flood, drought etc. Under this scheme, if the farmers' farming suffers any damage due to any natural disaster, then they are provided financial assistance. Under the Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme, if the crop of the farmers is destroyed up to 20%, then they get compensation at the rate of Rs 7,500 per hectare. On the other hand, if the crop loss is more than 20%, then compensation of Rs 10,000 per hectare is given. The amount given under this scheme is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the farmers. In the year 2022, the state government has given crop insurance claim of Rs 226 crore to the farmers under this scheme. Under Bihar Crop Insurance, farmers can get Rabi and Kharif crops insured.

To apply under Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme, it is mandatory for farmers to have a bank account and the bank account should be linked to the Aadhar card.
