Ayushman Bharat Yojana: More than 8.5 crore treatments completed, transforming healthcare for millions

The ambitious Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) of the Government of India has played an important role in providing health security to crores of citizens. Under this scheme, poor and deprived families are given free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh every year, so that they can take advantage of expensive treatment of serious diseases. Recently, the government has shared important information related to this scheme, in which it has been told that more than 8.5 crore treatments have been done so far.

The central government on Tuesday shared big information about Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The government has informed that more than 8.5 crore treatments have been done under the Ayushman Bharat scheme till January 31, 2025. Union Health Minister JP Nadda has given this information while answering a question in the Rajya Sabha. Ayushman Bharat Yojana 4.2 crore treatments have been done in government hospitals and 4.3 crore treatments in private hospitals.

All the states and union territories in the country, except West Bengal and the national capital, have been included under this scheme. Nadda said that AB-PMJAY is implemented through a trust medium, insurance medium and mixed (hybrid) medium. He said that currently this scheme is being implemented in 25 states through trust medium, seven through an insurance medium and two states through hybrid medium.

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is an important scheme of the central government. Under this scheme, people are given health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year. There are about 55 crore beneficiaries of this scheme in the country. 12.37 crore families are getting benefits under the scheme.

Health Minister JP Nadda has said that recently Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has been extended to six crore elderly people above 70 years of age. This is related to 4.5 crore families. The socio-economic status of the elderly beneficiary is not considered while giving the cover of Ayushman Yojana. Under the scheme, the elderly are given Vaya Vandana Card.

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is an important step towards making health services more inclusive and accessible in the country. Crores of poor and deprived families are getting relief from this scheme, which is enabling them to afford expensive treatment. Its scope is being constantly expanded by the government, especially the recent expansion for senior citizens makes it clear that health security is being given priority. This scheme is expected to expand further in the coming time so that every needy can get proper and quality medical facilities.
