India Shines at Asian Games Hangzhou with Historic Cricket Gold in Women's Final

India, who had previously won only one gold medal in cricket at the Asian Games, added another to their tally in a spectacular showdown against Sri Lanka on Monday. The match, held at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou, was a testament to India's cricketing prowess.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India faced an early setback as their explosive opener, Shafali Varma, was stumped off a delivery by Sungandika Kumari. However, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues steadied the ship with a solid 73-run partnership.
Despite losing just one wicket by the 14th over, India struggled to maintain a good run rate. Inoka Ranaweera's dismissal of Mandhana triggered a collapse, and India's score plummeted from 89/1 to 116/7 at the end of their innings.
Sri Lanka faced their own challenges as they lost their top three batsmen, including skipper Chamari Athapaththu, in just 26 balls. Titas Sadhu, who had made her T20I debut in the semifinals against Bangladesh, was the architect of this early damage, claiming all three wickets in her first two overs.
While Sri Lanka managed to recover briefly with two small partnerships, they struggled to maintain the required run rate. The pressure imposed by the Indian bowlers, especially Titas Sadhu, paid off as Sri Lanka lost wickets at crucial junctures.
Titas Sadhu finished with impressive figures of 3-6 in her four overs. Sri Lanka was limited to 97/8 in their pursuit of 117 runs, granting India a historic victory by a margin of 19 runs and their first-ever gold in cricket at the Asian Games.
This momentous win has etched India's name in the annals of Asian Games history and is a testament to the growing prominence of women's cricket on the international stage. Congratulations to the Indian women's cricket team on their remarkable achievement!
