AAP Removes Raghav Chadha as Rajya Sabha Deputy Leader, Ashok Mittal Appointed

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has removed Raghav Chadha from the post of Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha and appointed Ashok Kumar Mittal in his place. The party has formally communicated the decision to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh confirmed the development, stating that all necessary information regarding the change has been conveyed to the Secretariat. According to sources, the party has also written to the Secretariat requesting that Chadha should no longer be allotted time to speak on its behalf in the House.

In its communication, the party proposed the appointment of Ashok Kumar Mittal as the new Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha, replacing Chadha. Reacting to the development, Mittal described the change as part of the party’s internal process, stating that leadership roles evolve over time and different members are given opportunities to take on responsibilities.

He said that such changes allow MPs and leaders to gain experience in varied roles, adding that the position had earlier been held by other leaders before being assigned to him.

AAP currently has 10 Members of Parliament, including seven from Punjab and three from Delhi. Both Mittal and Chadha are Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab.

The decision comes at a time when Chadha has remained largely absent from recent party activities and events associated with AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Once considered among Kejriwal’s close associates, his reduced public presence has drawn attention within political circles.

The move signals a shift in the party’s parliamentary leadership structure, with Mittal now taking on a key role in representing AAP in the Upper House.
