Amritsar Police Bust Cross-Border Drug & Arms Racket

Amritsar Police dismantled a major cross-border drug and arms trafficking network, arresting six suspects and seizing 4.08 kg of heroin and two sophisticated pistols. The operation targeted a syndicate allegedly operated by a notorious Pakistan-based smuggler identified as Shah, security agencies said.
Police revealed that the contraband was smuggled into India via drones through the Firozpur and Khemkaran sectors along the border. The syndicate used social media platforms to share location coordinates, enabling the accused to collect and distribute the consignments across Amritsar and nearby areas.
The operation began with the arrest of Angrez Singh from Fagguwala village and his cousin, from whom 220 grams of heroin and a Glock pistol were recovered. Based on their interrogation, four others: Gurpreet from Khemkaran, Balwinder from Tarn Taran, Lakhwinder alias Lucky from Firozpur, and Baljinder from Firozpur were apprehended.
The accused, aged between 20 and 42, are mostly unemployed or engaged in small-scale jobs, according to police.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, addressing the media, stated that the syndicate was not only trafficking drugs but also facilitating the smuggling of arms from Pakistan. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the network’s linkages.
This operation has dealt a blow to cross-border smuggling in the region. Authorities urged the youth to avoid falling prey to the lure of quick money, warning that such crimes lead only to imprisonment. An FIR has been registered at the Gate Islamabad police station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway.
