Animal Husbandry Business Reaches ₹1 Lakh Crore in Bihar, Says Top Official at Veterinary Day Workshop

Animal husbandry is the backbone of Bihar's rural economy. 70 percent of the people of the state are associated with animal husbandry along with agriculture. The business of milk, eggs, meat, chicken and fish in Bihar has reached from 90 thousand to one lakh crore rupees. In such a situation, the role of veterinarians is very important in the development of livestock in the state.

This sentiment was expressed by Dr. N Vijayalakshmi, Additional Chief Secretary of Animal and Fisheries Resources Department, while inaugurating a one-day workshop on national livestock related topics at Hotel Lemontree Premium in the capital on the occasion of World Veterinary Day on Saturday. Let us tell you that every year the last Saturday of April is celebrated as World Veterinary Day.

In this workshop, veterinarians and animal experts from not only the state but also many other states of the country, including Vice Chancellor of Bihar Animal Science University Dr. Indrajit Singh and Animal Husbandry Director Navdeep Shukla, participated. Addressing the inaugural session of the workshop, Dr. N Vijayalakshmi said that the work of veterinarians is more difficult than that of human doctors.

Humans share their problems with their doctors. But mute animals and birds cannot even tell their problems to the doctor. Naturally, the veterinary doctors face more challenges in treating mute animals and birds. She said that 30 lakh liters of milk is being produced in the state every day. The target is to increase it to 50 to 75 lakh liters. The state government is giving its full support for the development of animal husbandry. Similarly, increasing the production of goat, chicken and fish is also the government's target.

Dr. Vijayalakshmi said that after the fodder scam, this department had become quite infamous. This department has been revived again due to the tireless efforts of the government. She also said that I have given most of my time to this department in my 30 years of administrative service. On this occasion, she congratulated the state's veterinary doctors on the approval of the promotion policy (pad sopan) by the cabinet.

She said that today the students who complete their veterinary studies from the university are directly joining her department. Soon, studies of livestock and poultry science will also be started in the state. Vice Chancellor of Bihar Animal Science University, Dr. Indrajit Singh, who was participating as a special guest in the workshop, said that today we are not as sensitive towards animals as we should be. Veterinarians are highly respected in foreign countries. Because this is a matter related to the country's economy. Animal Husbandry Director Navdeep Shukla said that we have to be more sensitive towards animals.

Our team engaged in animal welfare is doing a better job. In this workshop, Director Cow Kedarnath Singh, Dr. A Shankaran, Dr. Sunil Kumar Thakur, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Panjiyar, Dr. KJ Narayan and veterinarians from different districts of the state presented their experiences and research.
