Asaduddin Owaisi Announces AIMIM’s Entry into Mithilanchal, to Contest Four Seats

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has announced that his party will contest four key assembly seats in Bihar's Mithilanchal region, marking the party’s first major push beyond its earlier base in Seemanchal. The seats include Darbhanga Town, Jale, Keoti, and Bisfi in Madhubani district.
Addressing a public rally in Kumrauli village under the Jale assembly constituency on Monday, Owaisi declared, “After Seemanchal, AIMIM will now contest four seats in Mithilanchal.” The move signals the party’s intent to broaden its reach in Bihar ahead of upcoming elections.
Owaisi also took a swipe at Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, claiming that AIMIM had attempted to form an alliance but was met with resistance. “We tried to bring him on board, but he refused. This arrogance will cost him dearly,” Owaisi warned. “Your naivety will harm you. Your arrogance will make you weak. We are not afraid of anyone.”
Responding to criticism that he avoids political dialogue, Owaisi said his party had shown willingness to talk, but others were unwilling. “People used to say Owaisi doesn’t talk. But we were ready. Still, they didn’t want dialogue,” he said. He argued that voters now clearly see which parties are serious about stopping the return of the BJP-led government and which ones are not.
He also accused BJP-ruled states, particularly Uttar Pradesh, of targeting Muslims for expressing their religious beliefs. “In UP, people are being stopped from saying ‘I love Mohammad’. Posters are being taken down. But Indian Muslims will not stop expressing their love for India and the Prophet,” he said.
Owaisi stressed that his campaign in Bihar is not about personal ambition or dynastic politics but about representation for the state’s nearly 19% Muslim population. “We are not outsiders. We are from Hyderabad, and no one can drive us away from Bihar,” he said. He assured voters that he would not betray them like the four MLAs who defected to RJD in 2022.
In the 2020 Bihar assembly elections, AIMIM had contested 24 seats, winning five — two each in Kishanganj and Purnia and one in Araria. But four MLAs later switched to RJD, leaving only Akhtarul Iman, the party’s state president.
Owaisi’s roadshow in Darbhanga drew large crowds and enthusiastic supporters, suggesting growing interest in AIMIM’s new push into Mithilanchal.
