Assam CM Himanta Bishwa Sarma Vows No Compromise on Indigenous Rights at I-Day Ceremony

Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today unfurled the national tricolour at the official function of the Independence day at the Veterinary ground and assured that the government will not compromise with the issues concerning the indigenous people of the state.
The chief minister also presented to the people a brief account of the development activities undertaken by the government led by him in the last four and half years and said that while the government has launched a fight against the continuous process of a section of people to threaten the existence of the indigenous people through "land jihad", the government has cleared over 1.20 lakh bigha land from illegal encroachement in the last four and half years.
Reiterating that the government's ongoing eviction drive will continue, the chief minister said that this is not just a political issue but a battle for our very existence.
“If we remain silent, within the next decade, we will lose our identity, our land, and everything that makes us Assamese. Even the sacred Kamakhya temple hills could be encroached upon if we do not act now,” said the Chief minister.
He also attacked the successive governments in the state for turning a blind eye to illegal infiltration, allowing demographic changes to gradually take root across various districts.
Giving an account of the demographic changes in the state, he said that the state had already compromised in many districts.
The chief minister while highlighting the fact that the law and order situation of the state has considerably improved since his government has taken over, he said that the government has taken the bold decision to give arms license to the indigenous people and original inhabitants of the state who lives in vulnerable areas for their protection.
The chief minister also said that his government has brought to the mainstream almost all the insurgent outfits in the state and rehabilitated over 11000 former militants who had returned to national mainstream.
Sarna further said that the government has ensured highest investment in the state through the Advantage Assam summit and highlighted the steps for land reform in the state through Mission Vasundhara allotting land rights to the indigenous people.
