Assam CM Sarma Alleges Congress' Gaurav Gogoi Visited Pakistan, Vows to Present Proof by Sept 10

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday made serious allegations against Congress MP and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, claiming that he visited Pakistan on an invitation extended by the country’s intelligence agency, the ISI. Sarma stated that he would present evidence of this alleged visit by September 10.

"For the first time, I am revealing this—Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan on an ISI invitation. We have documents confirming this. He didn’t go there for tourism; he went for training purposes," Sarma claimed, as reported by the PTI.

The chief minister further argued that the invitation was not extended by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a cultural body, which he said would have been a different matter. Instead, Sarma alleged the invite came directly from Pakistan’s Home Department, which he claimed points to a more serious purpose. "When does a Home Department invite someone? Only for training. He was closely working with the Pakistan establishment," Sarma said.

Sarma emphasized that the government is in possession of the evidence, but requires time to officially obtain the related documents from diplomatic sources. "All his paths are closed. We’ve seen the evidence, we just need time until September to get the paperwork. Once we file the necessary notices, the embassy will provide us the documents. September 10 is final, and I won’t be answering any more questions on this till then," he stated.

In a further escalation, Sarma also alleged that Gogoi’s wife is employed by a Pakistan-based NGO and continues to receive a salary while residing and working in India. He questioned the nature of her ties with Pakistan and pointed to her reportedly having visited the country 19 times.

“If we can arrest 40 people for speaking in favor of Pakistan, then we can surely take action against Gaurav Gogoi. He is not above the law,” Sarma said. He also raised questions about the citizenship of Gogoi’s wife and children, asking whether they are Indian citizens or hold foreign citizenship.

These claims follow previous accusations by the Assam CM, which Gogoi has categorically denied. He has called the BJP’s narrative baseless and accused the party’s IT cell of engaging in “petty politics.”

As of now, Gogoi has not issued a fresh response to the latest round of allegations.
