Assam Police Search Pawan Khera's Delhi Residence Amid Passport Controversy

Assam Police conducted a search at the Delhi residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera on Tuesday. The action was taken following an FIR lodged by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, the wife of Assam Chief Minister

Himanta Biswa Sarma. This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political controversy surrounding allegations related to the possession of multiple passports. The search operation

comes in the wake of serious accusations made by Khera, who heads the Congress media department. He had recently alleged that the Chief Minister's wife held three passports from the UAE, Egypt, and

India, claims that have been categorically denied by the ruling BJP leadership in the state.

Reacting to the police action, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed he was unaware of the specific operation, stating he did not know why Assam Police had gone to Delhi. He suggested that Pawan

Khera had already fled to Hyderabad. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the Chief Minister declared his intent to take stringent action against the Congress leader. He expressed confidence in

his party's electoral prospects, asserting that the NDA would win at least 100 seats in the upcoming elections.

Riniki Bhuyan Sarma confirmed that she had filed the FIR, emphasizing that the allegations could not be treated lightly. She accused the opposition of acting out of frustration and

attempting to set up a playbook, stating that justice must prevail. CM Sarma further rejected claims linking his family to properties in Dubai, alleging that the documents cited by the Congress were

sourced unauthorisedly from the document-sharing platform Scribd. He escalated the political attack by alleging "Pakistani links" in the controversy involving Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Pawan

Khera, questioning why they took help from a Pakistani social media group. The political row unfolds just ahead of the Assam assembly elections scheduled for April 9, with vote counting set for May 4.
