Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur Ganga Bridge Progress on Track, Secretary Orders Faster Execution

Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary, Road Construction Department, today reviewed the progress of the Bakhtiyarpur (Karjan) Tajpur (Samastipur) bridge under construction over the Ganga River. During the review, he received detailed information from officials regarding the progress and current status of the Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur bridge.
During the review, the project's latest physical progress was found to be satisfactory. The Secretary issued clear instructions to further expedite the remaining work. This ambitious greenfield bridge connects NH-31 (Karjan near Bakhtiyarpur) to NH-28 (Tajpur, Samastipur), which is located over the Ganga River. Upon completion, the project will provide improved connectivity between North and South Bihar and reduce traffic congestion on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu.
Key Physical Progress
Foundation and Substructure: 45 of 46 piers completed. 1 remaining (Pier-23). Foundation completed, 5th lift of substructure in progress.
Segment casting in the casting yard: 650 out of a total of 1,170 completed
Segment erection from the launching gantry (LG): 197 out of a total of 1,043 completed. Work continues at Pier P-11.
Crane erection: 127 segments completed (100% completion).
CFT segment casting: 118 out of a total of 471 completed
Secretary Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pal stated that the project is progressing on schedule. Officials have been directed to accelerate the pace by investing more resources in casting, erection, and other critical activities. Ensure project quality and safety while completing the work within the stipulated timeframe.
The Karjan (Bakhtiyarpur) - Tajpur (Samastipur) four-lane bridge and approach road project is being constructed by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation under the Road Construction Department. This road begins at National Highway 31 near Karjan (Bakhtiyarpur) in Patna and connects to Tajpur in Samastipur district via National Highway 122. The total length of this road is 51.26 kilometers, including the bridge over the Ganges River, which is 5.51 kilometers long and the approach road, which is 45.75 kilometers long.
