Bihar Advances Energy Efficiency with Smart Prepaid Meter Installation in Government Buildings

Smart prepaid meters are being installed in all government buildings in Bihar to promote energy efficiency and electricity saving. As per the instructions of the Chief Secretary of Bihar, the target is to install meters in a total of 65,262 government buildings in the state, out of which smart prepaid meters have been installed in 43,606 buildings so far.

North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited has successfully installed 24,494 meters out of its target of 35,956 meters and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited has successfully installed 19,112 meters out of 29,306 meters.

Secretary of Energy Department and CMD of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pal said that to ensure transparency of readings and to resolve the doubts of the people, old meters will also remain installed in government buildings for some time. In this regard, detailed information can be obtained from the departmental employees and metering agency representatives present there. Smart prepaid meters will not only provide consumers with real-time information about electricity consumption but will also benefit them financially by saving electricity. Installation of smart prepaid meters in government buildings will not only bring transparency in electricity consumption but will also simplify the electricity bill management process.
