Bihar Aims for Pothole-Free Rural Roads by June 2025 Under Major Infrastructure Revamp

There is good news for the rural areas of Bihar.... Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken up the task of rejuvenating rural roads. By June 30, rural roads of all 38 districts of Bihar will be pothole-free. Which will ensure smooth traffic in rural areas. Not only this, a plan has also been prepared to complete the construction work of all the roads in the financial year 2025-26. This initiative will accelerate the economic development of the rural areas of the state.

New policy of road strengthening and management
According to the information, the Bihar government will do the work of construction, reconstruction, upgradation and renovation of rural roads which are out of the Defect Liability period. This scheme has been named "Rural Road Strengthening and Management Program". It was approved in the meeting of the Council of Ministers on 14 November 2024. For the effective implementation of the scheme, a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared for all roads and bridges. For this, geo-tagged photographs and detailed ground survey will be done through mobile app, so that transparency of the schemes can be ensured.
Rural roads of all districts will be rejuvenated
Under this scheme, a total of 2185 roads (3530.882 km) will be upgraded in the state, the total cost of which will be Rs 3056.13 crore. The administration has already approved the funds for this. Apart from this, a total of 13,436 roads will be renovated in 38 districts, with a total length of 23,938.545 km. Rs 20,322.415 crore will be spent on this. The Bihar government has directed that the tender process of the approved roads should be started immediately and completed by March 2025.
The quality of rural roads will be ensured
Under this scheme, provision has been made for blacktopping of roads twice a year, so that their durability remains for 7 years. Rapid road repair vehicles will also be arranged for continuous operation and maintenance, so that quick repairs can be done when the roads get damaged. During the implementation of the scheme, a provision has been made to ensure payment for all the work within 21 days, so that the contractors get timely payment and the work can be completed faster. Actually, an important objective of this scheme is to provide the facility of reaching the capital Patna from any remote area of the state in 5 hours, so that the residents get the benefit.
4182 roads will be rejuvenated
Under the financial year 2024-25, about 4182 roads (7300 km) will be repaired and upgraded. These will be those roads which will be out of the Panchayat level monitoring period by 31 March 2025. All these roads will be implemented from the approved budget in the financial year 2025-26
