Bihar Chief Secretary Proposes Six Major Railway Projects Including Buddhist Circuit and Suburban Networks

Along with strengthening the railway network in Bihar, an initiative has been taken to connect places of tourism and social importance here. Regarding this, the state government has sent six important proposals to the Railway Board. These proposals have been prepared keeping in mind the development of cities, increase in passenger facilities and demands of the increasing population. These six proposals include many important projects ranging from Buddhist Circuit Rail Corridor to new rail bridges, South Bihar and North Bihar suburban transport network.
State government sent proposal to Railway Board
Bihar Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena has sent a letter in this regard to the Chairman of the Railway Board. In this special letter, referring to rail transport in Bihar, he has written that rail transport is not only a convenient means of transport of passengers and goods but it also plays an important role in the economic development of any state, especially a state like Bihar.
He has also discussed the population density of Bihar and said that the population density of Bihar in the year 2024 is 1388 per square kilometer, which is 289.5 percent more than the national average, while the availability of railway track (km) per lakh population in the state is 5.31 while the national average is 9.81. He has said that it is necessary to consider the following proposals regarding the development of Bihar so that the state can be brought to the national standard.
1. Buddha Circuit Rail Corridor: Demand for doubling and new train
Chief Secretary Shri Meena has specially discussed the Buddha Circuit Rail Corridor. He has written that a circular train service can be started on the Patna-Gaya-Tilaiya-Rajgir- Fatuha (approval of Bakhtiyarpur-Tilaiya doubling) railway route. This will provide convenience to the passengers traveling to and from Bodh Gaya and Rajgir. This will benefit the residents of Patna, Jehanabad, Gaya, Nawada and Nalanda districts. This will take forward the vision statement of Budget Speech 2025 (Purvodaya).
2. South Bihar Suburban Transport Network: Demand for additional railway line
Along with this, he has also emphasized on strengthening the South Bihar suburban transport network of Bihar and has demanded better connectivity of Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Lakhisarai, Munger, Sheikhpura, Bhagalpur, Jamui and Banka districts with the capital Patna. He has written about running local train service like Mumbai and has demanded construction of third and fourth additional railway line.
3. North Bihar Suburban Transport Network: Demand for additional railway line
Along with this, he has written that a suburban transport network can be developed to connect Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur and Darbhanga districts of North Bihar with the capital Patna. For this, construction of additional railway lines on Siwan-Chapra-Hajipur-Muzaffarpur-Samastipur-Darbhanga section is necessary. The number of passengers in the Siwan-Chhapra-Hajipur-Barauni-Katihar section is very high, hence the development of third and fourth railway line in this section is very important.
4. Patna Regional Transport Network: Demand for rail bridge between Fatuha-Bidupur
The Chief Secretary has also demanded the construction of a rail bridge between Fatuha and Bidupur and said that a rail bridge between Fatuha and Bidupur can be constructed on the down side of Fatuha station. Apart from this, Patna Regional Transport Network can be developed on Patna-Patna Sahib-Fatuha-Bidupur-Hajipur-Sonpur-Pataliputra-Patna route.
This is necessary for the successful implementation of the mega coaching terminal and modern goods shed at Fatuha and will also help in the development of satellite towns around Patna. This will fulfill the target of establishing 5 satellite towns cum multi-model hubs around Patna.
5. Additional railway line in high density network: Demand for additional rail line
Along with this, Bihar Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena has written that the number of passengers on the DDU-Buxar-Ara-Patna-Kiul section is high, so there is a need for early approval of the third and fourth railway lines while expanding passenger facilities.
He has told the Chairman of the Railway Board through a letter that the process of making DPR is going on and the state government will provide all possible assistance for land acquisition even in congested areas like Gulzarbagh-Patna City, which includes shifting public facilities and development of roads etc.
6. Demand for construction of a new rail bridge on the Ganges river between Ara-Chhapra:
The Chief Secretary has emphasized on increasing rail connectivity between Ara and Chapra. He has written that at present JP Setu, Rajendra Setu, Munger Ghat Bridge are functioning as rail bridges. There is a plan to build a new rail bridge near Kahalgaon. Apart from this, a new rail bridge between Ara and Chhapra will increase connectivity between Shahabad and Saran, which will facilitate traffic between North and South Bihar.
Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena has requested to consider these projects sympathetically and said that the state government will ensure necessary and all possible assistance in the implementation of all the schemes.
