Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Unveils 21-Foot Jarasandha Memorial in Rajgir

Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar today unveiled the Emperor Jarasandha Memorial at Jayaprakash Udyan in Rajgir of Nalanda district by cutting the ribbon. This is a 21 feet high symbolic statue of the great Emperor Jarasandha. After the inauguration, the Chief Minister garlanded the statue of Emperor Jarasandha and paid his respects to him. During this, the Chief Minister observed the murals on the biography of Emperor Jarasandha, Jarasandha Information Center and the water conservation structure of the complex. While taking stock of the Jayaprakash Udyan complex, the Chief Minister said that the entire complex should be maintained properly.
The Chief Minister said that we have an old relationship with Rajgir. We have been coming here since childhood. After taking over the reins of Bihar, in the year 2009, we stayed in Rajgir for 7 days and visited all the important places here. After that, all the historical and religious places of Rajgir were developed but the condition of Emperor Jarasandha's Akhara could not be improved because this place is banned under the Archaeological Survey of India. We wanted to develop the arena of Emperor Jarasandha but due to it being a restricted area, it was not possible, so it was decided to build the Jarasandha Memorial next to the Jaradevi Temple and JP Garden and it was announced on 27 November 2022. The construction work of Emperor Jarasandha Memorial started in the year 2023. We had inspected the site under construction several times.
The Chief Minister said that today a 21 feet high statue of Emperor Jarasandha has been installed here and the park is also ready here. Today the memorial of Emperor Jarasandha and his statue (idol) have been unveiled. The people of Chandravanshi society in Bihar consider Emperor Jarasandha as their ancestor. In view of this, Jarasandha Mahotsav is being organized officially from the year 2023.
It is known that Jarasandha was a very powerful warrior of the Mahabharata period. He was an expert in Mal Yudh (wrestling). The arena of old times Jarasandha is still present in Rajgir.
