Bihar Final Voters List Released: 7.42 Crore Electorate Cleared Ahead of Assembly Polls

The Election Commission today released the final voters list of 7.42 crore electorate after Special Intensive Revision(SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar before upcoming state assembly elections.
Election Commission sources said here that 7.42 crore voters were listed as eligible electorate in electoral rolls released after SIR, which had started on June 24 this year. The total number of voters was 7.89 crore on June 24 when SIR of electoral roll was initiated, sources added.
"In the draft electoral roll released after the first phase of SIR on August one, the total number of voters was 7.24 crore which witnessed removal of 65 lakhs names ", sources said adding that names of 3.66 lakh ineligible voters were removed from draft electoral roll.
A total of 21.53 eligible voters were added in draft electoral rolls, which increased the figure from 7.24 crore voters of draft electoral votes to 7.42 crore in the final voters list.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and other top opposition leaders had taken out " "Voter Adhikar Yatra " from August 17 to September one to protest against alleged irregularities in SIR.
They had alleged that BJP was engaged in 'vote theft' in collusion with Election Commission, to influence results of Bihar assembly elections in its favour.
