Bihar Food Grain Production Expected to Rise by 14.73 Lakh Tonnes This Year

Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Agriculture Minister, Bihar Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha said that the third advance forecast related to area, production and productivity of major crops of the state for the agricultural year 2024-25 has been released. This forecast has been prepared on the basis of data collected by the State Planning and Development Department (Directorate of Economics and Statistics), field inspection, information received from farmers and technical analysis.

Mr. Sinha informed that this year the total food grain production in the state is expected to reach 226.807 lakh metric tonnes, which is 14.73 lakh metric tonnes more than last year. This is the result of the agricultural policy of the state government, technical intervention and hard work of farmers. The estimated production of rice has been estimated at 94.05 lakh metric tonnes, wheat at 74.34 lakh metric tonnes and maize at 54.17 lakh metric tonnes. It is clear from this that there is a continuous increase in grain production in Bihar.

He informed that apart from this, the estimated production of pulses is 4.00 lakh metric tonnes and the estimated production of oilseeds is 1.21 lakh metric tonnes. These figures reflect the government's committed efforts towards nutritional security, food self-sufficiency and increasing the income of farmers in the state.

The Hon'ble Minister said that the Bihar Government is providing quality seeds, fertilizers, technical guidance and grant assistance to the farmers on time. Along with this, schemes like weather based agricultural advice, soil testing, irrigation facilities and crop insurance have played an important role in increasing production capacity.

He directed the officials of the Agriculture Department to make agricultural management, crop diversification, marketing system and storage schemes more effective on the basis of these advance estimates. Also, he appealed to the farmers to increase production and profit by adopting scientific methods and agricultural techniques.

This advance estimate is a positive sign for the state, which will provide a new direction towards sustainable progress of the agriculture sector and prosperity of farmers in future.
