Bihar Govt Reviews Security Plan for Peaceful Durga Puja

A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Shri Pratyaya Amrit, Chief Secretary of the Government of Bihar, to ensure the successful and peaceful conduct of Durga Puja. District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, DIGs, IGs, Divisional Commissioners, and Railway Superintendents of Police from all districts participated in the meeting via video conferencing.
The meeting discussed in detail the maintenance of law and order during Durga Puja, crowd management, social media monitoring, and security arrangements in sensitive areas, and provided necessary guidelines to the concerned officials.
Special vigilance will be maintained at all major tourist destinations and puja pandals in the state. Last year, approximately 16,000 idols were installed across the state; this year too, the organizing body will be required to obtain a license before installing the idols. The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police will pre-inspect the idol installation site to prevent any potential communal tension or violence. Police deployment, fire brigade, ambulances, and other essential services will be made available for public convenience. A maximum number of cameras will be installed in each pandal to monitor the crowds. A police force, led by the local police station chief, will be deployed at every puja pandal to ensure a peaceful, grand, and safe celebration. DJ sound and operation will be controlled, as uncontrolled noise can also lead to conflict.
Police personnel will be provided with full-body protectors, night vision devices, and helmets.
Special monitoring will be maintained on inflammatory posts or comments on social media. Instructions have been given to immediately report any objectionable material to the police station.
Peace committee meetings will be held in every district, involving new and young members, to spread the message of peace and harmony in society. In light of recent incidents in Nepal, districts bordering Nepal have been instructed to be especially vigilant. The Chief Secretary urged all administrative and police officers to act with vigilance and sensitivity to ensure a completely peaceful, grand, and safe Durga Puja celebration in the state.
In previous years, unpleasant incidents such as throwing meat or pelting stones from rooftops occurred during idol immersion, which are unfortunate. This time, physical verification will be conducted to prevent such incidents. Members of licensed groups will be required to be present at the immersion. Videography of each group will be mandatory during the idol immersion.
DGP Vinay Kumar, ADG Kundan Krishnan, Special Secretary K. Suhita Anupam, and other officials were present at the meeting.
