Bihar Launches Mass Drug Administration Program to Eradicate Filariasis by 2027

The Health Department of the Bihar Government has started the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) program to free the state from filariasis. The program was inaugurated by the state's Health Department Minister Mangal Pandey on Friday. Under this program, all the health department officials have been instructed to make the entire state free from filariasis by 2027 by running a rapid campaign.

For this, a target has been set to provide medicine to 3 crore people in 13 districts of Bihar. During the program, Health Minister Mangal Pandey said, “This program will start in the entire state from Saturday. At present, it will start from 13 districts. We are going to feed this medicine to three crore people. We will not rest until we get Bihar completely free from filariasis.”

He also said that the government has set a target to make Bihar free from filariasis by 2027. For this, the doctors and other teams of the Health Department will work fully actively.

“The target is to make the country free from filariasis by 2027. Along with this, we are also preparing to eliminate the disease of hydrocele which comes under filariasis by February 2025," the Health Minister added.

Dr. Subhash, who is involved in this campaign, said that all people above 2 years of age can use this medicine. This medicine has minor side effects. People need not panic because of this. The more filariasis germs enter their body, the more side effects they will have. Its duration will be just one hour.
