Bihar Launches Monthly "Jal Chaupal" to Monitor Water Supply in Every Ward

To make the implementation of “Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal” Nischay Yojana effective and to make the monitoring of water supply services more effective, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHD) has now decided to implement Jal Chaupal on a regular basis. In this regard, the departmental minister Neeraj Kumar Singh said that Jal Chaupal will be organized in all the wards on the first Thursday of every month, in which the status of drinking water will be reviewed with the participation of pump operators, caretakers and local community. Strict instructions have been given to the departmental officers in this regard.

The minister said that through Jal Chaupal it will be reviewed that how many families are there in the ward, how many have got the facility of home water connection and how many families are still deprived of it. A list of such families will be prepared and updated through pump operators and caretakers, so that the needy families can get the benefit of the scheme on time.

He said that consumers will be informed about the standards of drinking water in the Chaupal. It will also be explained that it is decided that every person gets an average of 70 liters of water per day. People will be made aware to prevent wastage of water and to use it economically. Consumers who consume excessively will be sensitized about the importance of water conservation.

Mr. Singh clarified that the water supplied through taps is only for drinking and domestic use. It cannot be used for purposes like washing vehicles, bathing animals or irrigating fields. The use of Tullu pumps or other equipment is prohibited so that there is no hindrance in the water supply to other consumers and the pipeline remains safe.

Cleanliness of water storage, cleaning of utensils and safe methods of water drainage will also be discussed in the Chaupal. A monitoring committee will be formed at the ward level with the participation of women and youth, which will monitor the misuse of water and will conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns if needed. The Minister said that Jal Chaupal is not just a meeting, but an effective dialogue platform that will give a new direction to water management, transparency and public cooperation. He expected all the engineers to implement it seriously and ensure that Jal Chaupal is organized in every ward in a timely, systematic and effective manner.
