Bihar Launches Special Fisheries Scheme for SC/ST Farmers in 8 Plateau Districts

The Government of Bihar has launched a pond construction based fisheries scheme for Scheduled Caste/Tribe (SC/ST) farmers living in plateau areas. The benefit of this scheme will be available to Scheduled Caste/Tribe fish farmers living in eight plateau dominated districts of southern Bihar such as Banka, Aurangabad, Gaya, Kaimur, Nawada, Jamui, Munger and Rohtas.
To avail the scheme, the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department has invited applications for the financial year 2025-26. Under the scheme, 80 percent will be given at a cost of Rs 16.70 lakh per acre for construction of ponds ranging from 0.4 to 1 acre. This includes pond construction, tubewell, solar pump, advanced input and construction of shed on the pond. To avail the benefits of this scheme, farmers must have private land or land on lease for a minimum of 9 years. Land ownership certificate or recent land revenue receipt for private land, and in case of lease, an agreement on non-judicial stamp of Rs 1,000 has to be submitted.
Applicants have to apply with caste certificate, training certificate, Aadhar card, ration card, voter ID card, land map, mobile number, bank account details and IFSC code. The beneficiary will be selected by the selection committee headed by the Deputy Fisheries Director.
