Bihar Moves to Preserve Rare Archives as Chief Secretary Inspects Gulzarbagh Press

The Bihar government today took a significant step toward preserving the state's historical and rare documents. In this regard, Bihar Chief Secretary Mr. Pratyay Amrit and Director General of the Bihar Museum Mr. Anjani Kumar Singh jointly inspected the printing press and archives located in the historic Gulzarbagh.

The primary objective of this high-level inspection is to ensure the preservation of the age-old and historically significant documents located there. This work will be undertaken under the Government of India's ambitious "Gyan Bharatam" initiative.

The Chief Secretary and Director General thoroughly inspected the old files, rare manuscripts, and British-era documents housed in the archives. They described these documents as an integral part of the state's administrative and cultural heritage. During the inspection, they directed that these dilapidated documents be digitized using modern technology under the "Gyan Bharatam" initiative. The aim is not only to protect them from destruction but also to make them accessible to researchers and the general public. They also inspected the printing press premises and its facilities. They instructed the concerned officials to use scientific methods for document maintenance to preserve the quality of the paper and the ink for a long time.

Addressing the officials present on the occasion, Chief Secretary Mr. Pratyay Amrit said that Bihar has a glorious history, and the documents present at the Gulzarbagh Press are silent witnesses to that history. Through the "Gyan Bharatam" initiative, we will preserve this wealth of knowledge for future generations.

Shri Anjani Kumar Singh said The Bihar Museum will provide technical and expert assistance in this conservation work so that the documents can be preserved as per international standards.

Secretary (Expenditure), Finance Department, Smt. Rachna Patil was also present on the occasion.
