Bihar Partners with Digital India Bhashini to Convert Kaithi Script Records Using AI
A historic initiative has been taken by connecting the rich heritage of Bihar with modern technology. The Revenue and Land Reforms Department of the Government of Bihar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Under this, old records written in Kaithi script will be transliterated into Devanagari through AI. This MoU was signed by Amitabh Nag, CEO of Digital India Bhashini Division and Jai Singh, Secretary of Revenue and Land Reforms Department.
During the program organized in the auditorium located at the Chief Secretariat, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena said that this is a very commendable beginning. Deepak Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue and Land Reforms Department, has taken a big initiative on this keeping in mind the problem of his department. This will prove to be a good step for all departments in future. All departments will be able to connect through Bhashini. Along with this, the Education, Social Welfare, Tourism Department have full opportunity to benefit by using this facility.
The Chief Secretary said that cooperation with Bhashini can prove useful for many departments of the Bihar Government. Technical solutions can be found for administrative and other problems. There are many records in Kaithi script, which are very difficult to read. Departments still depend on retired personnel, but it is hoped that through this technology, this will end and people's capacity will be developed. Along with this, he also emphasized on converting the Pali script into Hindi and English. He also directed to launch Bihar Specific Hackathon.
At the same time, Deepak Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue and Land Reforms Department said that this initiative will also be helpful in the current process of special survey because most of the old cadastral and revision survey records are in Kaithi script, which are very difficult to read.
At the same time, Amitabh Nag, CEO of Digital India Bhashini Division said that emphasis is being laid on language not being a barrier in anything. Everyone should know how to read, write and speak in their own language. This initiative is not only important in the direction of saving historical knowledge but will also make it more accessible through modern technology. Bihar's leadership is commendable.
The MoU program was attended by B. Rajender, Additional Chief Secretary, General Administration Department, Harjot Kaur Bamhra, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, ACS/PS/Secretary of all departments and senior officials of the Revenue Department.
After this program, a Rajyam workshop was organized by DIBD at the Revenue Survey Training Institute, in which various technical experts, officials along with personnel from various departments participated. The workshop discussed knowledge sharing, capacity building and plans to integrate Bhashini's language technology framework into state departments.
In this workshop, Deepak Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue and Land Reforms Department said that Bhashini has started work on translating Kaithi script records into Devnagari. However, other departments can also take advantage of them. Bhashini can also prove to be very helpful in making our services reach the people. He emphasized on converting Pali documents into Hindi.
Many senior officials including Revenue and Land Reforms Department Secretary Jai Singh, CID ADG Parasnath, Land Records and Survey Director J. Priyadarshini, Special Secretary Arun Kumar Singh, Digital India Bhashini Division CEO Amitabh Nag also participated in this workshop.
