Bihar Plans Revival of Sugar Mills, Moves to Tackle Waterlogging in Sugarcane Fields

The state government has initiated efforts to restart closed sugar mills in Bihar and establish 25 new ones. Efforts are underway to increase sugarcane production in the state, but farmers are facing problems related to waterlogging. The Sugarcane Industry Department and the Water Resources Department have initiated action to find a permanent solution to this problem.
According to the Sugarcane Industry Department, a permanent solution will be found to the waterlogging problem in sugarcane cultivation areas. The Water Resources Department has issued instructions to the concerned officials for this purpose. To review this, a meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department, Mr. Santosh Kumar Mall, and several important guidelines were issued to the concerned officials. It is reported that special emphasis was placed on expediting the implementation of schemes under MNREGA and accelerating work through technical training, so that farmers can get immediate relief and increase sugarcane production. In addition to the Principal Secretary, Commissioner Anil Kumar Jha, Chief Engineer (Flood Control and Drainage) Varun Kumar, Chief Engineers, Sugarcane Department officials, and representatives of sugarcane mills were present at the meeting.
