Bihar Promotes Fish-Based Integrated Aquaculture with Up to 70% Subsidy for Chawr Land Development

Bihar government is promoting entrepreneurship and employment through fisheries. Directorate of Fisheries, Animal and Fisheries Resources Department has to develop the private Chawr land available on a large scale in the state for fish based integrated aquaculture, so that production and productivity is increased by integrating fisheries along with agriculture, horticulture and agro forestry in the unutilized Chawr resources. Under this scheme, “profit based Chawr development” and “entrepreneur based Chawr development” are being implemented for Chawr development.

Under this scheme, two ponds are constructed in one hectare area, whose unit cost (including input) is Rs. 8.88 lakh/ha. The unit cost (including input) of construction of four ponds in one hectare area is Rs. 7.32 lakh/ha and the unit cost (including input) of construction of one pond in one hectare area and land development is Rs. 9.69 lakh/ha. Under this scheme, 70 per cent subsidy is being given to backward class/Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe and 50 per cent subsidy to other classes and 40 per cent subsidy is being given for entrepreneur based pasture development. For more information, interested persons can visit the official website https://state.bihar.gov.in/ahd/CitizenHome.html or contact the District Fisheries Office. This is proving to be an important step towards creating new employment opportunities by establishing fish farming as an enterprise in the unutilized pasture resources.
