Bihar Targets 17% Green Cover by 2028, Currently at 15.05% as State Observes World Environment Day

The state government is constantly making efforts to increase the green cover area in Bihar. Currently, there is 12.55 percent forest area and 15.05 percent green area. Now the target has been set to increase the green cover to 17 percent by 2028. These things were said by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Dr. Sunil Kumar on the occasion of World Environment Day. This program was also organized on Thursday at Gyan Bhawan in Patna. The minister advised everyone to protect the environment and said that keep it away from life.

Emphasis on protection from plastic pollution and environmental protection

The theme of this program organized on the 50th anniversary of Bihar State Pollution Control Board was 'Beat Plastic Pollution'. Here the departmental minister warned people about the danger of plastic and said that it is very important to remove plastic from everyday life for environmental protection. He also mentioned Hariyali Mission and Vaniki Kisan Yojana and said that Bihar is getting the benefit of these. Hariyali Mission was started in the year 2012. After this, nurseries were opened across the state through Jeevika Didis by bringing the Chief Minister's Nursery Scheme.

The Forestry Farmer Scheme was also started under the Agriculture Roadmap. Under this, farmers can plant saplings on their raiyati land. At present, a very good result of this scheme is being seen. Along with this, measures have also been taken to preserve ponds for water conservation, as a result of which the water level has increased.

Dependence on plastic will have to be reduced

The Additional Chief Secretary of the Department, Harjot Kaur Bamhra said that everyone will have to make a joint effort for environmental protection because stubble burns somewhere else and its ill effects are seen elsewhere. 99 percent of the items used in everyday life are made of plastic. From toothbrush to pen, all are made of plastic, so dependence on it will have to be reduced. Giving the example of the Corona period, he said that nature has the most trouble from us, the human race.

Dr. DK Shukla, Chairman of Bihar State Pollution Control Board, said that continuous efforts are being made to control pollution. He called plastic use extremely dangerous and said that the use of plastic carry bags will have to be stopped.

They got the award for environmental protection

In this program, ITC Limited located in Vasudevpur, Munger was honored with the 'Industrial Pollution Control Award' for excellent pollution control. Along with this, Santosh Kumar Suman (Jamui), Atul Gunjan, Manoj Kumar (West Champaran) and Shivbandhu Dubey (Simri, Buxar) were honored with the 'Environment Friendly Award'.

Participants who were successful in the quiz competition were also honored. Amber Sinha and Ishan Bhushan, students of Saint Karens High School, Gola Road, Patna got the first prize. At the same time, Arnav Prakash and Manas Vaibhav of Don Bosco Academy, Patna were given the second prize. Winners of essay writing competition and site painting competition were also honored.
