Bihar to Expand One Stop Centers for Women’s Safety and Support

To curb incidents of violence against women in the state and provide quick assistance to the victim women, the government has decided to increase the number of One Stop Centers (OSC). To make women aware about OSC, a public awareness campaign is run in one panchayat of the district every week. This will also enable women in rural areas to get information about these services and they will be able to take advantage of them when needed. The government has intensified efforts to increase the reach of OSC, especially in rural areas.
Now women will not have to wander from door to door for justice or help. In these centers, all the necessary services will be made available to women at one place. One Stop Center is emerging as a safe haven for women, where they can share their problems without any fear and get proper solution. With this commendable effort of the government, women are moving towards self-reliance and empowerment.
Currently 39 One Stop Centers are working
Currently 39 One Stop Centers are working in Bihar, which have benefited 4 thousand 402 victim women so far. Medical, legal and counseling services are being provided free of cost to the victim women through these centers. In addition, a stay facility of 5 days is provided for needy women, which can be extended to 10 days in special circumstances.
What is One Stop Center
The main objective of One Stop Center is to provide relief to women from violence and help them become self-reliant. Immediate medical service, legal aid and counseling are given to women at these centers so that they can find solutions to their problems. It is being ensured by the government that these centers have access to all the districts and more and more women can take advantage of this facility.
Appointment of Para Medical Personnel in OSC
A para medical worker has been appointed in every OSC, so that the victim women can get immediate first aid. Apart from this, legal advice and police assistance is also provided here so that no woman has to wander elsewhere.
In this case, senior officials of the Social Welfare Department say that soon the exercise of setting up One Stop Centers in all districts and below will be started. For this, efforts have been started in the department. Soon its action plan will be given a concrete shape.
