BJP to Count on Tribal Support, Says CM Manik Saha Ahead of Tripura ADC Polls

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday claimed that BJP would, from now on, factor in the 20 Assembly seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes in its electoral seat calculations, demonstrating a strong belief in the party’s increasing backing among indigenous communities.

He also avowed that the BJP aims to secure all 28 seats in the upcoming elections to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) slated for early next year and establish the council government with a complete mandate while addressing a joining programme in the city, where a significant number of tribal leaders and supporters joined the BJP.

Dr Saha expressed that the tribal community has committed to winning all 28 seats in the TTAADC elections and forming the government, signifying a momentous shift in political allegiance among indigenous voters.

He warmly welcomed the new members to the party, extending congratulations and gratitude to them for placing their trust in the BJP.

The Chief Minister emphasised that although it may have taken time, the tribal communities have now recognised that only the BJP, guided by the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, can ensure comprehensive development for every individual in society, regardless of caste or community.

According to Dr Saha, BJP government is dedicated to the genuine and long-term development of tribal people, and the party’s vision will establish a solid foundation for Tripura’s progress for generations to come.

Using a metaphorical language, Dr Saha symbolically stated that by planting the seeds of the lotus flower among all tribal communities, BJP would guarantee the party's growth throughout Tripura and fortify its roots for centuries.

Criticising the opposition CPI (M), Chief Minister accused the Left party of historically misleading tribal voters to secure the 20 reserved Assembly seats, only to fall short on delivering promises after elections.

He asserted that the CPI (M) used to claim victory in these 20 seats even before vote counting commenced, without undertaking substantial development work for tribal areas. Dr Saha reiterated that going forward, the BJP’s seat count would naturally commence with the 20 tribal-reserved Assembly seats, emphasising his confidence once more in securing all ADC seats, thus facilitating a robust and stable government in the autonomous council.

His statements reflect the BJP’s assertive political drive in tribal-dominated regions ahead of the forthcoming elections, with a clear focus on consolidating indigenous support across Tripura.
