Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Holds Review Meeting on Ongoing Development Projects in Banka District

Patna: Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar today held a review meeting at the District Collectorate hall in Banka district, regarding the ongoing developmental projects in the region. In this meeting, Banka District Magistrate, Shri Anshul Kumar, provided a detailed presentation on the progress and current status of various development initiatives in the district.

The District Magistrate presented updates on several key projects including the Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme, Chief Minister’s Self-Help Allowance Scheme, Skill Development Program, Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal (Water Supply), street and drain construction, Chief Minister’s Rural Solar Street Light Scheme, irrigation for every field, construction of agriculture feeders, Chief Minister’s Agricultural Electric Connection Scheme, Chief Minister’s Entrepreneur Scheme, encouragement for higher education for women, telemedicine services in health centers, doorstep veterinary services, and the construction of Panchayat Government Buildings.

In addition to these, the progress of initiatives such as the establishment of 10+2 schools in every Panchayat, the formation of sports clubs in rural and urban areas, development under the Mukhyamantri Gram Sampark Yojana, the construction of rural bridges, and the establishment of self-help groups was also discussed. The District Magistrate also provided updates on the restoration of public wells, ponds, and lakes under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali mission. Furthermore, the status of various educational, health, and infrastructural developments in Banka was also covered. During the meeting, local representatives also raised concerns regarding their respective areas.

The Chief Minister welcomed the attendees and expressed gratitude to Shri Anshul Kumar for his detailed presentation. He appreciated the efforts of all present representatives and assured them that necessary actions would be taken based on their inputs. He highlighted that before the start of the "Pragati Yatra" (Progress Journey), officials had gathered information about the challenges and needs of each district, and several decisions had already been made, which would be announced during the meeting.

Reviewing Bihar’s Progress Since 2005

Shri Nitish Kumar took a moment to reflect on the significant changes Bihar has undergone since 2005, when he, in alliance with the BJP, began working on transforming the state. He recalled the challenging conditions of Bihar before 2005, when public safety, infrastructure, and basic services like electricity and healthcare were severely lacking. He stressed that under the leadership of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the state started receiving significant attention, and since then, development has been at the forefront of the state’s agenda.

The Chief Minister spoke about several impactful schemes initiated since his government took office, including the introduction of the uniform scheme for schoolchildren in 2006, the bicycle scheme for girls in 2008, and the expansion of free medical care and medicines in government hospitals from 2006 onwards. He noted the improvement in healthcare infrastructure, including the addition of new medical colleges and the expansion of existing ones. Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned the construction of world-class hospitals like the Patna Medical College and Hospital and the expansion of IGIMS, which is set to have 3,000 beds.

He also highlighted the reservation of 50% for women in Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies, as well as 35% reservation for women in police recruitment. Shri Kumar spoke proudly of the significant number of women joining the police force, which is the highest in the country.

Announcing New Developments for Banka District

The Chief Minister also made important announcements regarding new developmental initiatives in Banka district. He confirmed that a medical college and hospital would be built in the district, with the land already identified. Additionally, the Chief Minister announced the widening of the Banka-Amarpur state highway, which would improve connectivity between Bhagalpur and Banka, benefiting millions of devotees who travel for religious purposes. The widening of other roads, including State Highway 22, which connects Banka, Bhagalpur, and Munger, was also confirmed.

Other significant infrastructure projects announced include the construction of grid sub-stations in Amarpur, and power sub-stations in Bansi and Belhar, aimed at providing quality electricity to a large population. The Chief Minister also mentioned plans for establishing a degree college in Katariya, as well as a check dam on the Katariya river in Rajoun block. Further, industrial development would be promoted on 230 acres of land in Katariya, and the Ganga river water would be directed to the Hanumana Dam for irrigation purposes.

The Chief Minister assured that new administrative offices for the Bounsi and Barahat blocks would be constructed and that the remaining work on Panchayat Government Buildings would be completed by June 2025.

Commitment to Bihar’s Growth

Shri Nitish Kumar reiterated his government’s commitment to Bihar's continued development, noting the crucial role of both the state and central governments in ensuring this progress. He expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman for their cooperation and support to Bihar’s development.

The Chief Minister concluded by emphasizing the importance of creating a positive image of Bihar, highlighting the state’s transformation since 2005, and the continuous work done to uplift every section of society. He also criticized those who, instead of working for the people, indulged in divisive politics.

The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Shri Samrat Choudhary, Minister of Water Resources Shri Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Minister of Sports and Banka District In-charge Shri Surendra Mehta, Minister of Building Construction Shri Jayant Raj, MPs, MLAs, and other senior officials from various departments.

During this session, the District Magistrate presented a sapling and a token of appreciation to the Chief Minister to honor his presence and commitment to Banka’s development.

The ongoing development projects and future plans for Banka highlight the state government's resolve to improve infrastructure, education, healthcare, and overall living standards for the people of Bihar.
