CM Pema Khandu Urges Bogum Ao Foundation to Lead Fight Against Social Evils

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today called upon the Bogum Ao Foundation (BAF) to act as a trailblazer in addressing pressing social challenges while continuing to uphold the legacy and ideals of Ato Bogum, a legendary descendant of Abo Tani.

Khandu was addressing the 6th Bogum Ao Foundation Day celebrations held at Gogar in Likabali, where he attended as the chief guest.

Congratulating the organisers for sustaining the spirit of Ato Bogum even after several decades, Khandu lauded the Foundation for its consistent efforts towards social reform and community welfare. He appreciated the philanthropic initiatives undertaken by BAF, particularly its career counselling programmes aimed at guiding youth towards higher education and entrepreneurship, thereby enabling them to become self-reliant and responsible contributors to society.

Emphasising the role of civil society organisations in nation-building, the Chief Minister said that institutions like the Bogum Ao Foundation must lead from the front in combating social evils such as drug addiction, HIV/AIDS, student dropouts and other emerging challenges. He also stressed the need for handholding women through education, skill development and awareness to ensure genuine women empowerment, while simultaneously safeguarding the rich cultural heritage of the tribal communities.

Referring to the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and the state's goal of Viksit Arunachal 2047, Khandu asserted that these are realistic and achievable targets, provided there is collective and sincere participation from all stakeholders. "These visions are not mere slogans or distant dreams. With unity of purpose, disciplined efforts and community participation, we can transform our society and economy," he said.

The Chief Minister underlined that development should not be viewed only in terms of infrastructure. "True development encompasses social, economic and cultural progress. The government has a clear-cut roadmap to harness Arunachal Pradesh's rich natural and human resources and convert them into sustainable revenue, ensuring inclusive growth and improved quality of life for all," he added.

Earlier, Khandu unveiled Bogum Lwwnv, the statue of Ato Bogum, at Likabali, paying tribute to the revered ancestor whose life and values continue to inspire generations.

Deputy Speaker of State Legislative Assembly, Kardo Nyigyor, appealed to the Bogum Ao Foundation to take the lead in instilling a sense of unity and oneness among the younger generation and to promote a stronger "One Arunachal" mindset. He urged the Foundation to reach out to unreached and remote areas of the state to spread awareness on education, drug abuse, ecology and environmental conservation.

Major General Vivek Bakshi, GOC, 56 Infantry Division, Likabali, who attended the programme as guest of honour, highlighted the valour and resilience of Ato Bogum and called upon the Foundation to carry forward these qualities in the fight against social evils.

MLAs Tojir Kadu and Nyabi Jini Dirchi also attended the programme, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from community leaders, youth and residents of the area, reflecting the enduring relevance of Ato Bogum's legacy in contemporary society.
