COVID-19 Cases Rising in India: Surge Noted in Delhi, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Karnataka

COVID-19 cases are beginning to rise in a few parts of India, but health officials say there’s no need to panic. Most of the infections being reported are mild and easily treated at home. Still, states are stepping up preparations—making sure hospital beds, oxygen, and vaccines are ready just in case things take a turn.

As of May 19, there were 257 active COVID-19 cases in the country, according to the Union Health Ministry. Thankfully, the majority of these are minor and don’t require hospital care.

“The situation is under control. We’re seeing just a few isolated cases, and even those are being managed smoothly,” said Dr. Suranjit Chatterjee, Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, speaking to ANI.

To stay ahead of any potential surge, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava held a review meeting on Saturday. Officials confirmed that most cases continue to be mild and are being handled at home without complications.

The Health Ministry is still encouraging people to be cautiousl, though COVID-19 is now being treated like any other common viral illness. That means wearing masks in crowded places, washing hands regularly, and steering clear of large gatherings.

Health authorities are also keeping a close eye on the situation using tools like the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to track trends and spot any concerning developments early.
