CRPF jawan assaulted by Kanwariyas at Mirzapur railway station in UP: Report

In a disturbing incident in Uttar Pradesh, seven Kanwariyas were arrested for allegedly assaulting a CRPF jawan at Mirzapur railway station. A video of the attack quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation.

Reports say the altercation began over a disagreement about train tickets. CCTV footage shows the saffron-clad pilgrims pinning the jawan to the ground and repeatedly punching and kicking him in front of a large crowd. At one point, a bystander steps in to pull one of the attackers away.

The CRPF jawan was on his way to board the Brahmaputra Mail when the assault occurred. The viral video has sparked serious concerns about crowd management and law enforcement during the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) acted swiftly after being informed of the incident, registering a case and arresting all seven assailants following an investigation.

An official confirmed, “Seven Kanwariyas have been arrested in connection with the assault on the CRPF jawan.”

In a separate incident, police arrested a 31-year-old man, Sonu Mainuddin, for causing a disturbance along the Kanwar Yatra route. He was stopped near Baghpat Adda late Tuesday night after speeding on a motorcycle and shouting loudly. Despite warnings from officers Sub-Inspector Pramod Kumar and Fateh Singh to calm down, he continued to create a commotion.

These incidents have raised serious concerns about security and law and order during the Kanwar Yatra, a major Hindu pilgrimage where devotees collect sacred Ganga water and walk barefoot to offer it at Shiva temples.

This year’s Kanwar Yatra began on July 11 and will conclude on July 23, coinciding with the holy month of Shravan.
