Deaf-Mute Artist Nidhi Kumari from Saharsa Masters Traditional Block Printing, Wins Awards at State Level

When life does not give someone the ability to speak and listen, then artists like Nidhi make their art their language. They change their entire life on the strength of their art skills. Nidhi has succeeded in crossing every obstacle with her strong will and true dedication and has reached a point. Nidhi Kumari, a resident of Saharsa, is deaf and mute by birth, but has made traditional block printing her life. An art that has now become her identity and medium of communication.
Nidhi started learning the nuances of block printing at the age of just eight years. Despite difficulties, she mastered this ancient handicraft, in which designs are made by hand on clothes with wooden blocks. Today, the designs made by her are not only unique in beauty, but also express her feelings and attitude without speaking.
During training at Upendra Maharathi Shilp Anusandhan Sansthan, Patna, Nidhi gained proficiency in traditional techniques of block printing. She participated in many district level art competitions and also received awards. Also, she has brought pride to the state by showcasing her art on prestigious platforms like Bihar Kala Utsav.
Nidhi's printed artworks provide a lively glimpse of rural life, nature and folk traditions. Her discipline and depth of emotions are clearly visible in each of her prints.
