Defence Research and Development Organisation Successfully Conducts User Trial of Pralay Ballistic Missile off Odisha Coast

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a user trial of the Pralay short-range ballistic missile from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. This test is considered a significant milestone in validating the operational capability of India's indigenous missile system.

According to defence officials, two tests of the Pralay missile were conducted at around 10 am, followed by another launch shortly after. All these tests were conducted as part of the scheduled user-level evaluation. Officials stated that all launches were completely successful and no technical faults were detected during the tests.

Power and Range of the Pralay Missile

The Pralay is a short-range ballistic missile with a range of 150 km to 500 km. It is designed for conventional warfare. The missile is capable of delivering precision strikes against enemy radar systems, command centers, airbases, and vital military installations.

Missile System Developed with Indigenous Technology

The Pralay missile is based entirely on indigenous technology, strengthening India's "Atmanirbhar Bharat" defense campaign. The missile is capable of carrying conventional warheads ranging from 500 kg to 1000 kg, allowing it to be deployed to meet various operational needs.

Advanced Navigation and Accuracy

The missile is equipped with a state-of-the-art Inertial Navigation System (INS) with a radio frequency seeker, which helps maintain the missile's trajectory during flight. According to DRDO officials, the recent user trials were aimed at testing these navigation and accuracy systems under realistic operational conditions.

Officials stated that the successful user trials of the Pralay missile have further strengthened confidence in its deployment, and it will significantly enhance the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces in the future.
