Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Resumes Public Duties, Vows to Keep Fighting for Delhi’s Rights

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stepped back into public life on Friday, just days after being attacked during a public meeting. Attending an event hosted by the Association of Wholesale Readymade Garment Dealers in Gandhi Nagar Market, Shahdara, Gupta struck a defiant tone, assuring citizens that she remained undeterred.

“Your CM Didi will not be afraid, will not get tired, will not give up,” she said to loud applause. “Until Delhi gets its due rights, I will keep fighting alongside you. This is my vow.”

Gupta was attacked on August 20 during a public hearing at her Civil Lines camp office. The accused, Rajeshbhai Khimji, a 41-year-old man from Rajkot, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and other offences. Gupta had remained at her official residence since the incident, resuming public engagements with Friday’s event.

### Arvinder Singh Lovely Appointed Chair of Yamuna Paar Vikas Board

During her address, the Chief Minister also made key administrative announcements, naming local MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely as the chairman of the newly formed Yamuna Paar Vikas Board.

“He’s held top positions in the Delhi government before, and now, with no personal agenda—just a vision for development—he’s joined the BJP,” Gupta said. “He is like the Chief Minister of Gandhi Nagar.”

She directed Lovely and East Delhi MP and Union Minister Harsh Malhotra to immediately draw up a development budget for the area. “Prepare a file with the estimates. I am sanctioning the budget today itself,” Gupta announced.

### Infrastructure Push for East Delhi

Gupta reiterated her government's commitment to infrastructure upgrades in East Delhi. Plans include the laying of water and sewer pipelines, construction of toilets where needed, and development of multi-level parking facilities.

“We will ensure that areas lacking water pipelines get them. Wherever there’s no toilet or parking, we’ll build what’s needed. No one will be left behind,” she said.

She also announced that the Delhi government will begin mapping DTC bus routes, starting with the Trans-Yamuna region. “Every area will have access to proper bus services,” she promised.

Referring to the Yamuna river, she said, “A large population lives on this side of the Yamuna, waiting for it to be cleaned. With time, we will make sure Mother Yamuna becomes cleaner and more beautiful.”

### Upcoming Engagements

The Chief Minister is expected to attend the grand finale of the ‘Ideathon’ organised by the state industries department at the Ashok Hotel in Chanakyapuri at 4:00 pm today. According to PTI, she is also likely to return to her office at the Delhi Secretariat later in the day.
