Delhi High Court Orders Removal of Allegedly Defamatory Social Media Posts Against PhysicsWallah

The Delhi High Court has issued a significant interim order in a defamation case involving the online education platform PhysicsWallah. On Friday, January 23, the court directed the removal of allegedly derogatory and offensive posts posted on social media against PhysicsWallah. This order was issued in connection with a post made by a former employee of the platform.

A Petition Was Filed Against the Former Employee

PhysicsWallah had filed a defamation suit against its former employee, Nikhil Kumar Singh, and several social media platforms. The company alleges that the former employee made serious and misleading allegations against it through social media and YouTube, damaging its reputation.

What Did the High Court Say in the Interim Order?

Justice Jyoti Singh of the Delhi High Court, hearing the case, issued an interim injunction. The court ordered the immediate removal of the allegedly derogatory and defamatory content against PhysicsWallah. The court believes that prima facie such statements could harm the company's image.

PhysicsWallah seeks ₹2 crore in damages

Senior advocate Amit Sibal represented PhysicsWallah in the case. He told the court that the posts and videos made by the former employee were highly objectionable and even called the company a "scam." PhysicsWallah has sought ₹2 crore in damages for defamation.

Social media content to be monitored further

At the next hearing, the court will decide what further legal action will be taken on these allegations. Currently, this High Court order is being considered a significant step in cases involving defamation on online platforms and social media.
