Delhi Metro Renames 9 Stations; 12 Others Unchanged in Phase IV Overhaul

The Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved renaming nine stations from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) Phase IV project, following a review of 21 proposed station names by the State Naming Authority (SNA). While 12 stations retain their originally proposed names, seven have been revised and two have been completely renamed.

Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Gupta framed the renaming exercise as more than administrative housekeeping. "Metro stations are not just a means of transportation — they also reflect the identity, history, and culture of the area," she said, adding that every aspect was carefully considered before the changes were finalised.

The following stations have been given updated names that better reflect their localities:

Prashant Vihar → North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar; Jagatpur → Jagatpur-Wazirabad; Derawal Nagar → Nanak Piau-Derawal Nagar; Khanpur → Khanpur-Vayusainabad; Sonia Vihar → Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar; Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 → Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar; West Enclave → Mongolpur Kalan-West Enclave.

Two stations have seen their names changed entirely — North Pitampura has been rechristened Haiderpur Village, while Pitampura will now be known as Madhuban Chowk.
