Deputy CM Orders Action Against Police for Failing to Register FIR in Illegal Sand Mining Case

The government has started implementing the zero tolerance policy regarding illegal mining and transportation of minerals in the state. With this, the crackdown on illegal mining of sand has started. The Mines and Geology Department has made it completely clear that no negligence will be tolerated in cases of illegal mining and transportation. In this sequence, the department has taken an important action in Muzaffarpur district, which is a proof of the government's zero tolerance under the new mining policy.
This case is of the month of February. In a case of illegal sand transportation in Muzaffarpur district, the mining department had seized a vehicle and handed it over to Karja police station. After this, the department made a written request to the SHO of Karja to register an FIR in this case and take action as per the rules. But when this matter reached the higher officials of the department, it was found that the SHO did not register an FIR in connivance with the illegal transporters.
Deputy Chief Minister cum Mines and Geology Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha took this matter seriously and directed the department to take action with immediate effect. The District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police of Muzaffarpur were ordered to investigate the matter and take action against the guilty officials. In the investigation, it was found that the Karja police station in-charge had not registered an FIR in this case for more than a month. The station in-charge was suspended. The department also ensured that strict action is taken against all the officers guilty in this case.
In the financial year 2024-25, only 59.14 percent of mining revenue has been recovered against the annual target in Muzaffarpur district. At the department level, revenue collection in all the districts, especially where much less revenue has been recovered than the target, is being reviewed. Action is also being taken against other mining officials found guilty in this.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has issued strict instructions that the government will not tolerate illegal mining and transportation at any cost. He said that if the name of any government official comes up in such cases, strict action will be taken against him.
