Diwali Added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List, India Celebrates Global Recognition

It is a matter of pride for India that Diwali, the festival of lights, has now been included in UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The Ministry of External Affairs expressed happiness over this historic achievement, stating that Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil and the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya, which is celebrated in many countries around the world.
In a post on the social media platform, UNESCO wrote, "New addition to the Intangible Heritage List: Diwali, India. Congratulations!"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also responded to the honor, saying that Diwali is a festival deeply rooted in India's culture, civilization, and traditions. He said that this UNESCO recognition will further enhance Diwali's global popularity.
Delhi Government Also Welcomes the Decision
The Delhi Government also welcomed the decision. A day earlier, Delhi's Culture Minister Kapil Mishra had said that upon receiving UNESCO recognition, Diwali would be celebrated in a grand manner across the capital. From the Red Fort to government buildings, there will be illumination and decorations, and numerous events will be organized.
Durga Puja also included in UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage.
It is noteworthy that Kolkata's Durga Puja was previously included in UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage. The central government is also making efforts to include the Chhath festival.
