Eight Army Personnel Injured in Fierce Encounter With Terrorists in J&K’s Kishtwar

A fierce encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Sunday, injuring eight Army personnel.

The encounter occurred as part of Operation Trashi-1, when troops surrounded Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists. Meanwhile, security forces are on alert in Rajouri district after suspicious activity was observed near the Line of Control.

Operation Trashi-1 and the Cowardly Terrorist Attack

The Army's White Knight Corps launched Operation Trashi-1 at around 12 noon on Sunday in Sonar, a forested area in the upper reaches of Kishtwar, following information about the presence of terrorists. During the search operation, when the troops nearly surrounded two or three terrorists, the terrorists, finding themselves trapped, threw grenades at the troops and opened indiscriminate fire.

Eight Army personnel were injured in the attack, three of whom were critically injured and have been airlifted to the Udhampur Army Base Hospital.

Cordon and Search Operation for Jaish-e-Mohammed Terrorists

According to security officials, the surrounded terrorists may be affiliated with the Pakistani organization Jaish-e-Mohammed. All escape routes for the terrorists have been sealed, and the entire area is under tight security.

Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, and CRPF personnel are currently engaged in this joint operation. The Army is also using drone technology and sniffer dogs to locate the terrorists hiding in the dense forests.

Suspicious Movement and VGC Firing in Rajouri

Amid the ongoing encounter in Kishtwar, tensions also spread in the Nowshera area of Rajouri district. A Village Defense Committee member in Kalaal village, located near the Line of Control, noticed some suspicious movement near his home.

In view of security concerns, the VGC member immediately fired a few shots in the air, causing the suspects to flee. Immediately following the incident, the army and police cordoned off the entire Nowshera area and launched a cordon and search operation to eliminate any possibility of infiltration.

Third encounter in 20 days: A decisive battle against terrorism in the Valley

The beginning of 2026 has been challenging for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, as this is the third major encounter in just 20 days. Previously, the army clashed with terrorists in the Billawar area of Kathua district on January 7 and 13.

On December 15 last year, a police officer was martyred in an encounter in Udhampur. In view of the recent incidents, a high alert has been issued across the valley, and security forces are prepared to thwart any terrorist plots from across the border.
