Engineering Student Dies by Suicide in Odisha After Losing Lakhs in Online Gaming

An engineering student tragically died by suicide in Odisha' s Kendrapara district on Tuesday after reportedly losing several lakhs of rupees in online gaming.

The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Kudanagari police station.

The deceased, Sahil Kumar Jena (18), was a resident of Bangari village and a second-year engineering student at the Nalanda Institute of Technology in Chandaka.

According to reports, Sahil had been secretly playing online games for over six months without his family’s knowledge and had lost a substantial amount of money.

He had returned home for summer vacation. On Monday, he reportedly lost an additional Rs.96,000 while playing online games.

Distressed by the mounting losses, Sahil consumed pesticide stored in the house.

He was initially rushed to Patkura Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment, but succumbed to the poison while being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
