Exploitation of Teachers at Munger University

Administrative disorder has reportedly reached alarming levels at Munger University, located in eastern Bihar. Allegations of exploitation of teachers are giving rise to fresh controversies almost every day. Contractual faculty members are said to be in a particularly distressing situation. Reports suggest not only instances of bribery but also claims of physical and mental harassment.

It is alleged that unusual and questionable orders are being issued with the connivance of the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar. The latest case involves Dr. Preeti Kumari, a History Teacher, whose situation has drawn significant attention.

During her tenure at K.K.M. College in Jamui, Dr. Kumari reportedly raised serious allegations of harassment. A formal complaint was also submitted to the Governor of Bihar. However, before the inquiry process was fully concluded, the investigation team allegedly declared the complainant herself guilty and reportedly recommended her dismissal from service.

In a surprising turn of events, the university administration, purportedly showing “sympathy,” chose not to terminate her services but instead transferred her to K.S.S. College in Lakhisarai.

However, when Dr. Kumari attempted to comply with the transfer order and join her new posting in Lakhisarai to resume teaching duties, the Principal there allegedly refused to allow her to join.

As a result, the Teacher now finds herself in a precarious situation—unable to work either in Jamui or in Lakhisarai. Compounding her distress, her salary has reportedly been withheld just before the festival of Holi.

In a telephonic conversation, the the complainant reportedly held the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and the Inquiry Officer of Munger University responsible for the entire episode. She alleged that the university authorities are shielding the accused individuals and retaliating against her for filing the complaint by transferring and effectively penalizing her.

While official records may reflect an act of compassion, in practice, she claims she has been prevented from joining her new post and has been financially and mentally harassed through the withholding of her salary.

When contacted for their response, officials from the offices of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar reportedly declined to comment.

The aggrieved scholar and faculty member further stated that the university administration’s actions are pushing her toward extreme distress. She expressed grave concern that if she is not allowed to work and her salary continues to be withheld, she may be left with no option but to take drastic steps.
