Flood fury disrupts Punjab–Jammu lifeline as Ravi bridge damaged

The Pathankot–Jammu National Highway has been partially closed following severe damage to a bridge over the Ravi River on the Lakhanpur side, disrupting a key connectivity route between Punjab and Jammu.
The closure has led to long queues of vehicles, with traffic completely halted from the Jammu side.
Heavy water flow in the Ravi River, exacerbated by the release of water from the Madhopur Headworks, caused the bridge damage, authorities reported.
The situation worsened when a building housing CRPF personnel and civilians near the Madhopur Headworks in Lakhanpur collapsed. Army helicopters were deployed to rescue those trapped in the structure, which later crumbled entirely.
According to the DSP Traffic, the damaged bridge has forced a complete shutdown of traffic from the Lakhanpur side. Vehicles are being allowed to move from the other side in 15-minute intervals to manage the flow. Authorities are assessing the situation, and repair work is expected to begin soon.
Further details are awaited as the situation develops.
