Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Applies for MLA Pension Following Resignation

Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has applied for his pension as a former legislator in Rajasthan, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to a spokesperson from the Rajasthan Assembly Secretariat, Dhankhar submitted his application two days ago. The official explained that if an MLA is appointed to a ministerial, gubernatorial, or presidential role, their pension is suspended. However, after stepping down from his vice president role on July 21, Dhankhar has re-applied for the pension from his time as an MLA representing Kishangarh from 1993 to 1998.
Dhankhar, who was a Congress MLA from Kishangarh, had been receiving his pension until July 2019. However, this was stopped after he was appointed the Governor of West Bengal on July 20, 2019.
With his resignation from the vice president's office due to "health reasons" on July 21, Dhankhar has now sought the resumption of his pension. The official said the Rajasthan Assembly Secretariat has started the process, and the pension will be reinstated from the date his resignation was accepted.
As for the pension itself, a former MLA in Rajasthan receives ₹35,000 per month for a single term, with the amount increasing for each additional term and age. Since Dhankhar is 74 years old, he is entitled to a 20% increase, bringing his pension to ₹42,000 per month.
